MAMA KNOWS FITNESS Bells Balance Your Body The Kettlebell Way to a Better You Sheri Barnes 9780988455207 Books

This book is easy to believe that your mother wrote it. Sheri Barnes gives the main reasons why you should exercise, advice on how to avoid the Freshman 15 (the college student weight gain), responds to your excuses on why you're avoiding exercise (especially the `lack of time' issue), how to form `good' habits, how to fix eating habits, explains the changes of the body as you age and the importance of exercise, then concentrates on the advantages of the kettlebell as your main exercise tool.

Sheri Barnes gives practical and useful advice. Some kettlebell authors suggest in the beginning that you see a certified trainer to ensure that you're doing the exercises correctly; this isn't practical for most of us. Ms. Barnes admits to using a DVD in the beginning. She recommends about what size kettlebell to use; it's ok to start light and go heavier. She said when the movement seems easy and you no longer break into a sweat, move up to a heavier kettlebell.

In her book, Sheri Barnes refers to her website, [...]. The website has videos of her demonstrating some of exercises, and one showing her kettlebell mentor, Jeff Martone, using Sheri Barnes as a weight in an exercise. She has written descriptions and pictures of various exercises, both for abs and kettlebells. My complaint is the pictures are very small so it's difficult to impossible to exercise and refer to the book at the same time. The book is full of website addresses to explore and footnotes in case you want to check her accuracy.

I recommend this book, especially if you need to be reminded why you should and continue to exercise (Personally, I need constant nagging). I would suggest a supplement kettlebell book or two. Jeff Martone, wrote the book, Kettlebell Rx: The Complete Guide for Athletes and Coaches; this book has large, color step-by-step pictures of each exercise. Another book I would recommend as a supplement is Kettlebells For Dummies by Sarah Lurie. Sarah Lurie gives advice for specific groups (pregnant women, seniors, etc.). These three books cover the subject of kettlebells and exercise for everyone.

Sheri Barnes "gets it".She knows many of us hate exercising. However, that didn't stop her from writing a truly valuable guide to getting and staying fit. Through the use of simple Kettlebells she's created an easy-to-read and well researched book. In as little as 30 minutes a day anyone can tone up and feel great. That's women AND men of all ages, too!

Sheri dismantles all the popular roadblocks to getting physically active. Through a smooth blend of personal experience, physiological conditioning and nutritional information, Sheri makes a strong case to moving off the couch and into a personal plan to get and stay healthy.

I'm one of those who rarely exercises. Without being preachy, Sheri made me really think about my own situation and how I need to make some changes in my life if I want the quality of my life to improve. Mama Certainly Knows Fitness! I've already started Googling Kettlebell dealers....

MAMA KNOWS FITNESS,BELLS,BALANCE,AND YOUR BODY is the extremely well
researched work of Sheri Barnes, a professional Coach,Trainer,
Motivational Speaker and Kettlebell Expert.
The book's 206 pages are devoted to coaching the reader to regular
exercising. It shows how to form benificial rather than destructive
habits, how to eat properly for exercising and how to perform
Kettlebell routines. With eleven chapters interspersed with
attributed insperational thoughts, an epilogue and chapter notes,
the author has created a work that may prove to be a classic in
Kettlebell literature.
Sheri introduced me to kettlebells last year and I have been hooked ever since!! Not only did I enjoy the workout, but I enjoyed learning from Sheri. Her book is very easy to read and follow. It talks about working out, about making the time to do it & also ensuring you are eating the right foods to fuel your body. The book is laid out in chapters, which allows you to go back and reread different sections easily. She includes pictures so you can see the various positions of each move, which is really helpful and ensures you have the right posture to achieve the most benefit from each move.

If you're looking for a change in your workout I suggest you try kettlebells and check out Mama Knows Fitness!
When I picked up this book, I was looking for a new addition to my exercise routine. I wanted to do some strength training and needed something I could do at home instead of having to go to a gym. What I got was so much more.
Mama Knows Fitness is a complete guide to a healthy lifestyle. Sheri took the time to break down how to incorporate fitness and healthy living into every stage of your life - from college student through retirement. She offers examples (with pictures) of how to use kettlebells, smart advice about nutrition, and the benefits of keeping your body healthy over a lifetime.
I've read a lot of different things about fitness and healthy living, but I've had a block about healthy eating. Honestly, Sheri changed that. She said (paraphrasing here) a lot of people wonder about why healthy food is so expensive and say they can't afford to eat healthy. What we should be wondering is why unhealthy food is so cheap. Change your thinking and change your life.
I got this, as an addition to my 'kettlebell' book library. She is a good writer, the book's section on changing habits (i.e. exercise, good eating, rest) are very good. The pictures showing the kettlebell moves are not...I would be hard pressed to learn kettlebell moves from the pictures in this book. There are other books which show the moves much more clear and easier to learn. I, myself, have had to lay off kettlebells for awhile. Issues with my lower back, requiring the expertise of chiropractic treatments to solve. I would recommend getting one on one training with a certified kettlebells instructor, as well as good books/dvds...your chances of injuries or overtraining would be much less.
